East Zone v South Zone - Duleep Trophy - 1st Semi-Final – Day 2 – Live Score and Update
East Zone 267 v South Zone 134/5 (48.0 ov) - South Zone trail by 133 runs with 5 wickets remaining in the 1st innings
In the first semi-final of the ongoing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kumar-Shri-Duleepsinhji-c71867 Trophy four-day match between East Zone and South Zone, the South trail by 133 with five wickets in hand at stumps on the second day of the game being played at Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam.
East Zone began the day by resuming their first innings from a tally of 187 with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SS-Tiwary-c2565 on 84 and B Mohanty on 51.
The two batsmen continued their impeccable form as they hammered the bowlers right from the get go in order to score maximum runs before lunch.
However, the plan backfired as with 219 runs on the board, South Zone grabbed their first wicket of the day when Mohanty was dismissed by Mithun after jabbing a knock of 58 runs.
Tiwary was then joined by I Saxena, who faced 26 deliveries without scoring, but gave Tiwary enough support for the batsman to take the score to 243.
Saxena was then removed by Binny as the fielding side seemed in a hurry to end East’s batting stint. Without a big total on the board, this was the worst time for East Zone to see an end to their innings.
Nonetheless, Tiwary’s knock of 145 helped his side amass a total of 267 at the end of their first innings.
From South Zone, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/A-Mithun-c41242, was the ace bowler for grabbing four wickets backed by STR Binny, who nabbed three batsmen.
With a small total ahead of them, South required a humble start to their innings without taking too many risks.
Openers, A Mukund and RV Uthappa posted a stand of 69 before East drew first blood by dismissing Mukund for 19.
In the next over, RV Uthappa followed his opening partner back to the pavilion when he was dismissed by Samantray after hammering 40 off 64 deliveries.
With the opening batsmen decommissioned, South Zone needed to initiate a rebuild phase in the middle to avoid a complete meltdown.
MK Pandey and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amit-Verma-c44057 exhibited impressive form by hammering 31 and 22 to play a key role in taking their side to 134 before the end of the day’s play.
