I'm planning on transferring next fall to a public 4 year school. I live in New Jersey and will drive I think at most 4ish hours from home. I'm thinking somewhere in NY, NH, PA, maybe even VT, and really want to go to a school near a ski resort, whether its in the Poconos, Hunter mt area, Southern Vermont, w.e.

Has anyone gone to a school so they were able to ride during the school year? Only thing is I don't want to be in hickville, like being near Burlington would be sweet. I could probably just look up schools in these areas but I want to see if anyone has experienced a school in particular and what the town was like, if there was any life in the town?

What are some schools you've heard of snowboarders/skiiers going to mainly so they can get out on the slopes on the weekends?

And yes Colorado would be sick as well but I want to be within a reasonable driving distance!

  1. If you do a web search on ski teams in the US, you will probably find several schools that fit your needs.

  2. definitely university of vermont in burlington--stowe is only 45 minutes away, whiteface in the adirondacks(ny) is about an hour, okemo/killington about 11/2 hours away

also, university of maine @farmington--close to sunday river and sugarloaf ski resorts

but my #1 pick would be UVM in burlington

  3. UVM is AMAZING! if you ever get the opportunity to go there, do not pass it up! i would give up ANYTHING to go there. i've only been there once for a weekend and i fell in absolute love with it. the people are amazing and burlington is gorgeous. if you know anyone who goes there see if you can stay with them for the weekend and i guarantee you'll find your first choice school hands down.

  4. Middlebury (Spelling?) in Vermont. My friend's sister goes there and she snowboards all the time.

  5. Try The University of New Hampshire in Durham.  Most ski areas in the Northeast are within a three hour ride of there. Nice campus and just an hour north of Boston(Train right from campus)
