Question:

East is East; any trainspotters sussed the mistake?

There's a scene where mum and bairns are at a phonebox outside a train station, calling oldest brother, who's now a hairdresser in Eccles. A train rushed past them...an Inter City 125, no less (introduced in 1975 - on tracks between Paddington to Bristol/Truro).

As the film was based in 1972, couldn't the film-makers wait until a Class 37, complete with freight-wagons roar past?

  1. Anorak!

Edit - don't hate ya! Just kidding!

  2. film "researches" are not too hot on detail.

eg, there was a 3 part program on itv this year "he kills coppers" .

My friends narrow boat ( built in 2004 ) was used for the scene based in 1976

If you are intested, there are plenty of website with continuity and context errors. One is called nitpickers i think - its surprising to see how many mistakes get left in films

  3. I'm trusting my memory now, but I seem to recall the prototype IC125 running on this line between 1972/73.

It went past us at ludicrous speed - we had to put up with an old Deltic powered thingy.

  4. lol

  5. No, but it's pretty clear you're a freak job. I don't need a tin lunch box for that revelation.

  6. you  can almost guarantee anything on tv/films with raiways will be wrong.Vast sums of money are spent on getting say, a Victorian dress correct to the last button , then they`ll show Sherlock Holmes getting a North Eastern train supposedly from Paddington to Dartmoor.(NO,  Sherlock is`nt wearing the dress!! )
