Eastern Conference Leaders Philadelphia Flyers thrashes Pittsburgh Penguins by 5-2
Pittsburgh Penguins hosted the Eastern Conference leaders, Philadelphia Flyers, at the Consol Energy Center hoping for a win but it was Flyers who registered a 5-2 win.
The game saw both teams fighting for the lead as with a win, Penguins would be level on points with Flyers. Flyers, on the other hand, could move ahead of the teams closely following it with a win this time out.
The start to the game was as expected with the first goal taking some time but was finally scored by Penguins that put it in the lead.
Flyers was able to come up with some decent plays that saw it scoring too and levelling the scores as the period ended.
Penguins got back into the lead as the second period started but Flyers showed its productivity with two goals that put it into the lead for the first time.
The final 20 minutes of play started off with Flyers dominating as it scored twice to win the game by 5-2 comprehensively in the end.
Ville Leino of Flyers was named the star of the game as he scored two goals and made an important assist.
The game kicked off with both teams making a slow start but it caught pace with the passage of time. There were several chances for both teams to score and get into the lead but they missed the early chances.
Penguins finally managed to score in the 13th minute with Alex Kovalev scoring from a well placed flick shot.
Flyers wasn’t far behind as it was successful in scoring in the 16th minute through Jeff Carter’s tip in shot that levelled the scores.
The period ended with the scores on 1-1 with Penguins making 7 shots on goal while Flyers made six shots on goal.
The second period started with both teams continuing on the attacking roads and it was Penguins who scored in the 10th minute to get back into the lead with Tyler Kennedy scoring the goal.
Flyers was able to put up a fight and with some strong plays managed to score two goals in succession to get back into the lead.
The goals were scored by Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux in the 14th and 15th minute, respectively.
Flyers came up with a few more shots on goal but it couldn’t find the back of the net as the period ended with Flyers leading 3-2.
The final 20 minutes of play began with Flyers dominating the game in terms of possession and it scored in the sixth and ninth minute to get in a comfortable position.
Both the goals were scored by Ville Leino which saw Flyers winning the game 5-2 in the end.
