Eastern Kentucky University volleyball team releases schedule for upcoming season
Eastern Kentucky University has recently announced its schedule for the upcoming season for its volleyball team. The Colonels are expecting a lot from this season and hope to utilise the opportunity to stand among the top teams at the national level.
The first part of the season will include non-conference matches that will gear the Colonels up for the tougher league matches to come their way later in the year. Eastern Kentucky do not plan on playing on their home ground until September, when the home
matches will be able to provide the right boost to the Colonels as they begin playing league matches.
The first match of the scheduled season match for the Colonels will take place on the 26th of August. The match will be part of the Pitt Panther Invitational, to be held in Pittsburgh. The other three teams other than the Colonels as well as the
host team that are a part of the tournament are Howard University, Rhode Island and Duquesne.
The start of September will see the squad heading to Florida to be a part of the South Florida Invitational. On 2nd September, the Colonels will face the host team as well as the Bowling Green squad. During the next two days of the tournament,
the Colonels will also compete against Bethune-Cookman and Maryland-Eastern Shore.
After 10th September, EKU will not be playing anymore non-conference matches. The last of these contests will be played in the 2011 Owls Classic.
The Colonels will be greeting Austin Peay as well as Tennessee State on the 16th and 17th of September. After these two games, the McBrayer Arena will be hosting visitors in the month of November.
The Colonel team that will be coming onto the courts this time around would be a lot different from the one that had been previously making its appearances as seven seniors will not be a part of the Colonels any more.
Lori Duncan, the head coach of the Colonels is optimistic and enthusiastic about her team as Ashley Edmond, the 2010 Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, as well as Hannah Groudle are on board.
