Eastern Province Under-13s secured a 78-run victory against Griqualand West Under-13s on Wednesday, in the match that was played at Paarl Boys High School Ground 2.
This was Eastern Province Under-13s’ day as they began by winning the toss and choosing to bat first.
However, they lost an early wicket when, with only ten runs on the board, they lost opener K Forbes, who perished after smacking only four runs.
S Tsotsa and D Rushmere shattered the confidence of the bowlers, as they led their side towards 48 runs before the former faltered after belting a 20-run knock off 37 deliveries.
D Rushmere was then joined by L Richards, but the latter could score only a run before finding hid way off the field. At the time of this wicket, the batting side had managed to reach 61 runs.
Griqualand West Under-13s’ hit jackpot when Klijnhans clean-bowled Rushmere after the batsman had amassed 44 runs. The skipper left his side lingering on 79 runs.
S Callaghan and D Bosch, while crafting a tentative partnership, took the score to 90 before the former lost his wicket to Klijnhans, after piling 11 runs.
The bowlers maintained a steady momentum in the innings, grabbing wickets at regular intervals.
With U Tait unbeaten on 35, Eastern Province Under-13s closed their innings with 164 runs on the board.

Then with 27 on the board they lost two quick wickets, followed by their fourth wicket with only 28 on the board.
