Eastern Province Under-19s v Border Under-19s - CSA Under-19 Competition – Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Border Under-19s 147 v Eastern Province Under-19s 169/9 (63.2 ov) - Eastern Province Under-19s lead by 22 runs with 1 wicket remaining in the 1st innings
The first day of the three-day CSA Under-19 Competition between Eastern Province Under-19s and Border Under-19s, belonged to the bowlers from both sides, as 19 wickets fell before the end of the day’s play at Union Ground, St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
While Eastern Province’s A Nortje and BB Bopp were the alphas for sharing four wickets each, N Sigwili was 'the man' for Border as he bagged five wickets.
Border Under-19s, who chose to bat after winning the toss, had a disappointing start as they lost their first wicket with only two runs on the board.
The wicket was certainly doing a lot for the batsmen to handle as with only 19 runs on the board the batting side lost two more wickets.
Having lost three of their top batsmen for nil was a major loss of the Borders, as they needed to regroup and prevent an imminent meltdown.
The fourth-wicket partnership between skipper K Christoffels and A Ferreira yielded the required results as the batsmen halted the bowling onslaught and while choosing not to take too many risks, they led their side to 57 before this partnership also met its end on the wicket of A Ferreira for 22.
Then with 65 on the board, T Mgugudo, fell in front of Bopp after a cameo innings of six runs off 11 deliveries.
Then with 80 on the board, Bopp struck gold when he shattered the stumps of Christoffels, who fell after jabbing a knock of 40 runs.
C Sansom then smashed 28, followed by a 25-run knock from S Ngqoba which helped Borders amass 147 before faltering in 36.5 overs.
It was now evident that the Borders would need to use the pace of the wicket to their advantage in order to prevent Eastern Province from overcoming their first innings score.
The bowlers did exactly what was expected from them as they restrichttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hobson-c63279 unbeaten on 65 at stumps.
