At stumps, on the first day of the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition between Eastern Province and Border, the latter trail by 344 runs with eight wickets in hand at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
Eastern Province, who chose to bat after winning the toss, had a flying start as openers ML Price and DJ White smashed the bowlers all around the park, dominating the opposition and hammering a 113-run partnership.
This opening stand blew the opposition to smithereens; however, Border’s punishment came to an end on the wicket of DJ White, who was caught by Sodumo after hammering 53 runs.
Skipper N Ackermann was disappointing today, as he perished after scoring only two runs, leaving his side standing on 125.
Then with 137 on the board, Border grabbed another wicket when Mbane clean-bowled ML Price after the batsman had bolstered a commendable knock of 67 runs.
A Jacobs and KR Smuts then forged another resounding partnership in the middle-order to stop the bowling onslaught.
The partnership was enough to cripple Border, as Eastern Province averted a dangerous comeback by their opponents.
The four-wicket partnership led the side towards posting 230 runs on the board, before Smuts (42) was sent on his way by Brown.
The departure of Smuts placed AZM Dyili in the middle, as it was now on his shoulders to continue his side's batting offensive.
The two batsmen took the score to 273, before AZM Dyili hit the showers after scoring 27 runs.

Nonetheless, it was too late for Border to stop Eastern Province as WE Bell and LR Walters kept the scoreboard ticking before the partnership met its end on the wicket of LR Walters (12), as he left his side on 341. Eastern Province, later, crumbled with 349 runs on the board.
From Border, LL Lwana was outstanding with a four-wicket haul, backed by L Mbane who dismissed three batsmen.
Border then had a terrible start as they lost two wickets and posted only five runs before the close of the day.
