Eastern Province v Border - CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition – Day 2 – Live Score and Update
Eastern Province 349 and 105/8 (41.0 ov) v Border 231 - Eastern Province lead by 223 runs with 2 wickets remaining
The second day of the three-day CSA Provincial Competition between Eastern Province and Border saw the former secure a lead by 223 runs with two wickets remaining at St George's Park, Port Elizabeth.
After Eastern Province were bowled out for 349, Border ended the opening day by posting five runs for the loss of two wickets.
They were hoping to make amends by batting strong on Friday, hoping the wicket to help the batsmen, however, the morning brought back luck with it as the overnight batting partnership was broken with just 11 runs on the board, as KD Bennett was dismissed by Meyer after scoring only 10 runs.
BC de Wett and GVJ Koopman then prevented the bowlers from wreaking havoc as they led their side towards a 50, before de Wett was snapped up by Gidana after playing an innings of 24 runs.
11 runs later, the batting side saw their sixth batsman go down when GVJ Koopman (20) was dismissed by Gidana.
Just as Border were looking to hang on, DL Brown and MJ Nqolo pulled off a commendable partnership, not only avoiding a batting collapse, but leading their side out of the tough situation they were caught in.
Nonetheless, it was not their day because just when they looked in a dominating position, Nqolo was picked up by Kula with the batsman on 17 runs. By this time, Border had managed to post 112 on the board.
DL Brown, was then joined by skipper AM Sodumo and the two batsmen continued the batting offense, taking the score to 149 before the captain found his way off the field after clobbering 20 off 22.
Brown and L Mbane looked lethal, but they were stopped from ripping apart the bowling attack as Brown was neutralized by Kula with 68 to his name. By this time, the batting squad had piled 192.
L Mbane then smashed an amazing knock of 49, playing a dominating role in helping his side reach 231 runs.
Eastern Province then crafted an opening stand of 21 runs in their second innings, but lost too many wickets, something that prevented them from scoring an extra 70 to 80 runs before the end of the day, as they finished with 105 on the board for the loss of eight wickets,
