Eastern Sun to shine in the Betfair Heron Stakes (Listed Race) at Sandown
The Class 1 Betfair Heron Stakes (Listed Race) will be staged at Sandown over a mile and fourteen yards on Thursday, 31st May. Contesting for the £18,714 prize money is a line-up of ten three-year-old runners.
In terms of staying consistent and maintaining a benchmark, Eastern Sun leads the line-up. Through the four career outings, he has either been placed third or has won. Two of the starts culminated into wins.
He claimed the career debut on 9th June in the Newvoicemedia Maiden Stakes (Colts & Geldings) at Newbury over six and a half furlong. Riding with William Buick, he led the 5/4 favourite of the race, Moustache, by 2 ¼ lengths.
Concluding the race third in line was Spiritual Star.
The final race of the season saw him finishing third in the Group 3 Sunshine Coach Solario Stakes on 20th August over seven furlongs. The race was won by Talwar who led the runner up, Silverheels, by five lengths.
Eastern Sun took the third place while riding with Martin Dwyer.
The 6/4 favourite of the race, Trumpet Major, finished last on the track of four.
After grabbing the career debut, the three-year-old launched on determinedly for claiming the seasonal debut. He won the Betfred “Double Delight” Conditions Stakes (Colts & Geldings) on 7th April at Kempton over a mile.
He was entered as the 3/1 joint favourite and led the runner up of the race, Miblish, by 1 ¾ lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position was Leqqaa.
The second attempt of the season presented itself in the Group 3 Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes on 19th April at Newmarket over a mile.
This time the positions switched as Trumpet Major while riding with Ryan Moore took charge of the final five lengths and set Crius into the runner up’s slot.
Finishing right behind the runner up was Eastern Sun with William Buick while the 7/2 favourite of the race, Mighty Ambition, ended fifth.
According to the pattern that he has been following since the last two seasons, Eastern Sun should post a win through today’s race and even besides that he has substantial chances of claiming the race.
