Easterns Under-19s v Northerns Under-19s - CSA Under-19 Competition – Day 3 – Live Score and Update
Easterns Under-19s 363 & 156 v Northerns Under-19s 262 & 258/5 (57.0 ov) - Northerns Under-19s won by 5 wickets
On Saturday, Northerns Under-19s won their CSA Under-19 three-day competition against Easterns Under-19s by five wickets at Willowmoore Park A Field, Benoni.
This is a sensational win for Northerns Under-19s because they were never in a dominating position before their second innings as Easterns had taken a lead in the first innings by clobbering a spectacular score of 363 and then restricting their opponents on 262.
The match was in their hands and it would seem now that they missed a perfect opportunity to register a win in the ongoing tournamenhttp://www.senore.com/Cricket/Thomas-George-Burrows-c93472 by giving a lacklustre performance on the final day.
Their second innings wasn’t impressive either as they had lost seven wickets with only 146 on the board at the end of the second day of play.
Skipper VP Moore and JDS Hlatswayo were barely clinging on as they resumed their innings this morning, however, the partnership could not flourish as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Moore-c77694 departed for only a run to his name, leaving his side on 148.
The side then mustered only 156 before crumbling in 48.1 overs.
GJ Snyman from Northerns Under-19s was outstanding with his four-wicket haul which left the batting side paralyzed.
Requiring 258 runs to win, Northerns had an astounding start with the openers forging a partnership of 47 runs followed by the second-wicket partnership between PJ Cronje and skipper MG Coetzee which took the side to 71 runs.
The initial partnerships set the tone of the run chase, however, Easterns made a comeback by dismissing two more batsmen, leaving the batting side on 75.
This was the moment when Easterns needed to sustain pressure on their opposition to win, however, they failed, which cost them the match as MG Coetzee and MJ Faasen led their team to 254 runs before the latter was run out after scoring ninety runs. Meanwhile, Coetzee stayed unbeaten on 107 as he took his side across the finish line.
