Easterns v Gauteng – CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, 2012/13 – Match Update – Gauteng win by 5 wickets
Led by Eddie Leie, Gauteng’s bowling attack managed to keep the Easterns down to a low target, which their batsmen then chased down with ease, going on to claim a 5-wicket win during their list A match in the ongoing CSA Provincial One-Day Competition, played
at the Willowmoore Park in Benoni on November 18.
The Easterns won the toss and chose to bat first, but were unable to make any headway. Gauteng’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richard-das-Neves-c84952 (all of whom picked up one
wicket each) did not allow the Easterns to pass a final total of 194.
The Easterns’ major contributions with the bat came from the lower order, with Grant Thomson (43) and wicketkeeper Dylan Bennie (43*) jointly top-scoring for the team. Aside from these two, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Johan-Christiaan-Fourie-c67175 (15), and Jean-Pierre Kok
(18), from the top four of the batting order, remained the only ones who managed to contribute double-digit scores.
The rest remained fairly spiritless, with opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Israel-Christopher-Hlengani-c64617, and Dillon Stanley all managed 4 runs each. By the end of 50 overs, with 9 wickets down,
the Easterns posted a final total of 194.
Gauteng’s innings got off to a wobbly start, as the team lost their openers early – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Devon-Conway-c53929 (35), however, put their team back in the running
with a steady 60-run stand for the third wicket. Both batsmen brought the team total up to 83, after which they fell prey to the Easterns’ skipper Fourie (8.5-0-41-2).
However, Shaheen Khan (49*) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 guided the team through to the end, and aided
by skipper das Neves (16*), enabled Gauteng to reach 196, with 5 wickets and 25 balls remaining.
