Easterns v Gauteng – CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition - Day 1 – Live Score and Update
Easterns 325/9 (98.0 ov) v Gauteng - Easterns won the toss and elected to bat
On the first day of the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition between Easterns and Gauteng, Easterns amassed a stiff total of 325 for the loss of nine wickets after they chose to bat first at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.
For Gauteng, it was imperative to grab early wickets in order to exert pressure on the batting side.
However, the idea of dominating the batsmen was farfetched, as Easterns openers TM Bodibe and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Clare-c1729 Fourie gave their side a steady start by denying the bowlers any momentum.
This was certainly an encouraging start for the batting side as the opening duo clobbered a stand of 46 before Fourie became the first wicket of the day when he was caught by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 after scoring 19 runs.
With the Easterns’ opener back in the pavilion, it was a perfect opportunity for the bowling side to make a comeback.
However, it was only after Easterns had posted 63 on the board when Gauteng nabbed their second wicket on the dismissal of Bodibe for 35.
With both openers back in the pavilion, it was time for Easterns’ middle-order to mould a batting resurgence in order to continue the momentum that was launched by their openers.
The third-wicket partnership between MR Sekhoto and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jai-Prakash-Yadav-c65330 Kok proved vital as the duo incinerated the bowlers by smacking the ball everywhere.
Easterns, who by now looked comfortable in the middle, managed to post 110 before losing their third wicket with Kok perishing against Shaheen Khan for 19.
The bowler then struck once more as he sent Sekhoto back to the pavilion after the batsman had amassed an innings of 30 runs.
SW Liebisch and L Ngoepe then forged another intimidating partnership as the two batsmen steered their team to 178 before the fielding side made another breakthrough on the demise of Ngoepe, who perished with 45 runs to his name.
With SW Liebisch having smashed 65 and GM Thomson scoring 47 the Easterns managed to end the day on a high.
