Easterns 325 & 150/9d v Gauteng 198/9d & 210/7 (51.2 ov) - Match drawn
The CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition match between Easterns and Gauteng ended in a draw on Saturday with Gauteng failing to reach 278 needed to win at Willowmoore Park, Benoni.
The day began with Easterns resuming their second innings from an overnight tally of three, with all wickets in hand.
Having smashed a brilliant score of 325 in their first innings and then limiting their opposition on 198, Easterns were in a commanding position and needed a lead of few more runs to give their opponents a challenging target.
However, their plans went awry when with just 13 on the scoreboard they lost their first wicket on the departure of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jonathan-Clare-c1729 Fourie for three.
On the next delivery, de Vrye, struck once more to neutralize MR Sekhoto, who hit the showers without opening his account.
The arrival of JP Kok on the wicket halted the bowling onslaught as the batsmen forged a rebuild phase, taking the score to 51, before they lost their third wicket on the dismissal of TM Bodibe, who walked back with 19 on the board.

Two runs later, Easterns lost L Ngoepe to Leie for nil, as the bowling side showed signs of resurgence.
Liebisch then moulded a splendid partnership with GM Thomson to take the score to 138. This sensational batting duo met its demise on the wicket of Liebisch, who fell after clobbering 48 runs.
With GM Thomson smashing 26, the rest of the batting line-up was comfortably wiped-out as Easterns declared with 150 on the board.
Gauteng started their run chase with an opening stand of 24, before OA Ramela had his stumps obliterated for 11 off 17.
M McGillivray came at number-three and forged a commendable partnership with opener DA Hendricks to bat his side to 83.
He was then removed with 32 to his name, leaving the match in balance. However, it was imperative for Gauteng to continue their belligerent batting in order to reach the target.
Nonetheless, even with McGillivray’s 32, DP Conway’s 43 and S Burger’s unbeaten 50, Gauteng could muster only 210 by the end of the day’s play.
