I have a friend who is enrolled in colllege. The 1st yr they recieved a pell grant and a stafford loan, and then withdrew from classes the 1st semester. The 2nd semester they rcvd the rest of the grant and the loan, but failed 2 of the 3 classes (which were the same 3 they withdrew from the 1st semester), so needless to say they are on academic probation, I think is what its called and they want to know if they could still get financial aid if they apply again for school in the summer....I dont know what to tell them, bc I never been in that situation, so if you can help fam, I appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

  1. They should talk to their financial aid office to find out the specifics.  Usually, being on probation allows you another semester to attend.  Students have to  be making both qualitative and quantitative progress in their classes.  The GPA should be above 2.0 each semester and they have to be completing I believe more than 67% of their course loads.  If they continue to fail to meet either they will end up being on hold for future financial aid.

Your friend should also talk to an academic advisor on campus and find out a sound plan for them to make positive academic progress from this point forward so they do not run into problems losing federal funding.
