I want to ask him for permission to be in his Speech and Debate class. He teaches at my school, and is currently teaching speech at the summer school I am attending. Shoul I go up to him and say "Mr. Pippen, I wanted to know if I can be in your speech and debate class next year?" or "Mr. are you the one who teaches speech and debate at this high school; (wait for an answer); may I be in your class next year?"

How should I do it?

  1. Well you already know that he teaches speech and debate so asking him would only make you look like you were trying to hard. I would just walk up to him and ask what the requirements are for being in his speech and debate class. That you are interested in it, and was wondering if it would be possible for you to take his class next year. Since it is what he teaches, he will be glad to talk to you about it

  2. Just approach him and say 'Hello Mr Pippin, Can I have a quick word?  I just wanted to ask if there are any places available in your speech and debating class next year?' He will then say yes, no, ask the office or whatever and you can take a cue from that. If he just says there are ask if you can apply. Just don't worry and get worked up. My mother in law says - 'what the worst that can happen? - they can say no!' I am sure that through life people have said that to you before - so just give it your best shot - Good Luck!

  3. Just walk up to him and start a small conversation. Then Mr. I know you teach a speech and debate class and if you had room I would really enjoy being in it. See what he says and go from there.

    Good Luck =)

  4. I am guessing that getting into this class may be a little difficult, since it requires permission of instruction. I would go to him and say, "Hello Mr X, My name is ... and I'm a (yr) at x school. I am interested in taking your S%D class in the Fall. Would this be possible?" And you can add, if you want, why you want to take the course. Ie, it's an elective, you're wanting to use it as a foundation for a college course, whatever. Either way, you should be confident and friendly in your approach.

  5. Just keep cool, say.

Hi mr.pippen, i'm interested in you're speech and debate class and was wondering if i could be in?

He'll respect you actually went and asked.
