  1. why 5?

  2. That's funny, I remember when I moved out to a rural area while going to college because it was cheaper.  This was 1984.  The apartment (converted barn) was in the backyard of a small farm.  Anyway, my point is I had no cable and the cable company wanted me to pay mega bucks to run a line to this new establishment where no cable has gone before.  I ended up getting cable and moved out 2 months later.

BUT THAT WAS 1984!!!!  I'm surprised people still can't get DSL.  I felt like my neighborhood was late and we got it about 6 years ago.

So, the obvious answer is economics.  Companies will put DSL where is is viable for them financially.  Eventually, when the tap the urban and suburban market areas, they'll make their way out to you.  In the meantime, there's always Satellite, but it's hard to get that too for internet.

  3. IDK man, but I got Cable here now, the cable dude came in and said where ya'll stay ya'll can get cable, but its like 90 dollars a month so don't get it, even if it's fast. Come over some time man i'll see if you can spend the night sometime next week

  4. Because ISP's are companies and they're out to make money.

They will only spend money to upgrade services where there is sufficient demand for them to see a profit.

If you live in a small village try start a campaign/petition to persuade your ISP to provide a wider variety of service.

  5. ...... not a good business proposition for the ISP to invest at those places, as their ROI would be much large than compared to urban areas

  6. Yes, you are extremely right.

I think it is just a matter of time, till everyone is up and running with the same technology.

  7. They could just create a small wireless hub or subsidise the cost of satellite internet for rural communities.

If someone were to set up an internet cafe for rural communities running on satellite. That would be handy and dandy.

  8. cost of running lines to your area
