  1. Order of operations is the key to solving all of these problems. You need to do the steps in the proper sequence. An easy way to remember the order is the phrase:

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.

Parentheses - evaluate all math inside of parentheses first (this also applies to brackets)

    Exponents - do exponents next

    Multiplication - comes next

    Division - follows that

    Addition

    and

Subtraction - are the last things to be done

    [added]

Take the first problem as an example:

    5[1/2+(3/5 * 5/6) divided by 5/8]

The first thing to evaluate is the (3/5 * 5/6) since that is contained in the inner parentheses. Multiplying that yields 15/30 which reduces to 1/2.

    The problem is now:

    5[1/2 + 1/2 / 5/8]

Division of 1/2 by 5/8 comes next. Invert the 5/8 and multiply:

    1/2 / 5/8 = 1/2 * 8/5 = 8/10 which reduces to 4/5

    The problem is now:

    5[1/2 + 4/5]

The last operation inside the bracket is the addition:

    1/2 + 4/5 = 5/10 + 8/10 = 13/10

    The problem is now:

    5[13/10] = 65/10 = 6 5/10 which reduces to 6 1/2

  2. First find lowest common denominator for your fractions and follow the PEMDAS rule (first calculate equation in the Parentheses, then Exponents, then Multiplication and Division, then Addition and Subtraction)

Follow that to systematically solve.  For your first one:

In the parentheses are 3/5 * 5/6.  Solve this first.  The lowest common denominator is the lowest multiple that both denominators can factor into.  For this example, 30 would be the lowest common denominator because it is both divisible by 5 and by 6.

Multiply the numerator by the constant in which the denominator is multiplied by to equal 30.  3 is multiplied by 6 (since 6*5 = 30), and 5 is multiplied by 5.  The equation now reads:

    5*[1/2 + (18/30 * 25/30)/(5/8)].  Now group the common fractions:

    5*[1/2 + ((18*30)/(30*30))/(5/8)] and multiply through:

5*[1/2 + (1/2)/(5/8)].  Next, divide 1/2 by 5/8.  The denominator of 1/2 is multiplied by the numerator of 5/8 and the denominator of 5/8 is multiplied by the numerator of 1/2, or:

    5*[1/2 + (1*8)/(2*5)], which equals:

5*(1/2 + 8/10).  Find the lowest common denominator for 1/2 and 8/10, which is 10:

    5*(5/10 + 8/10), which is also:

    5*((8+5)/10) = 5*(13/10), now multiply through:

    65/10 = 6.5

  3. k well i dont feel like working with fractions right now but 1x5=5

    so thats 5 times 1.6=8

so the answer is 8? idk i tink thats rite dont feel like double checking, but thats the idea.

    O **** IM A DUMB **** THE ANSWER IS 65/10, ya. 0.5x1.6=0.8+0.5=1.3x5=6.5

Okay and the order of operations thing is a complete waste of time, just look at it and see where you can get.

  4. 5[1/2+(3/5 * 5/6) divided by 5/8]

    5[1/2+(1/2) divided by 5/8]

    5[1/2+(1/2) / 5/8]

    5[1/2+8/10]

    5[ 5/10+8/10 ]

    5[ 13/10 ]

    5[ 1.3 ]

    6.5
