There is an effect on some photo programmes where you can make the picture black and white, yet choose parts to remain in colour.

Do you know of any programmes that I can download that can do this?

Thanks,

  1. Gimp can do it, using the selection tools and the hue-saturation tool.

  2. Gimp (http://www.gimp.org/) is free and it's close to as good as Photoshop.

It's not simple to learn, but it's a great program.

One way to actually do it is to

    1. Copy the image layer into a second layer

    2. "Desaturate" Make black and white, the top layer

    3. Erase the parts on the top layer that you want color (the black and white will disappear leaving the color you want.)

There are other/better ways of doing it, but this is conceptually the easiest.

  3. Any program that has a layer function should be OK for this.

  4. there are some softwares that you can use to do this..but you should be familiar with the software..i use adobe photoshop..

  5. http://www.gimp.org/

download the latest gimp and install

(its similar to the pricey photoshop and its free)

    open the image in gimp

    from uper tabs select

    IMAGE - MODE - GRAYSALE

    hold Ctrl + A

    then hold Ctrl + C

    close the picture and re-open

    from uper tabs select

    LAYERS - NEW LAYER

    now hold Ctrl + V

    from uper tabs select

    TOOLS - TOOLBOX

or just hold Ctrl + B

then use the eraser to erase parts of the top layer and if you got this far the rest of the way is easy

you can change eraser size on bottom of toolbox

  6. A very good Photo-Editing software available is Adobe PhotoShop, but only a 30-day trial for PhotoShop is available for free. To try it out go to http://www.adobe.com/downloads

A free alternative to PhotoShop is GIMP. While it is as powerful as PhotoShop, it's a bit harder to use. If you can't get your head around it, check some tutorials on YouTube:

    http://www.gimp.org

    Hope that helps.
