I'll most likely be visiting Niagara Falls this weekend for the first time, i'm from California.

Is Absinthe easily available to find and will I easily find it in Niagara Falls? In a bar or liquor store?

I'm 20 yrs of age so def. can drink there right? :]

I heard mixing reviews about Absinthe, whether its really a hallucinogen and whether is just gets you really drunk or not, etc. i don't even know the proof of it...

  1. You will NOT be able to find it here. They do not serve it in bars, nor will the liquor store sell it. Perhaps you should do some research on what it was used for in the past and the affects it has on the human body before you would like to partake. You may, however, drink legally here.

  2. Find some oxycontin instead.  Liquor is horrible.

  3. Why do you want something that will make you unconscious and out of control?  It's your brain and your body and I hope you survive  and tell your story so others wont be as stupid as you.  Maybe you will get a signal from God because God will greet you before the CSI dig up your body.

  4. Absinthe is legal in Ontario, however what's sold here isn't considered

    "true" absinthe by the aficionados.

Also, the hallucinogenic properties of absinthe have been proven to be a myth.  You get a similar buzz to vodka but you stay a bit more lucid and less cloudy.

I had it at a bar called Insomnia in Toronto.  I found the taste to be horrible and it was quite expensive but I'm glad I tried it once.

I'm sure it's available at many bars at the Falls.

  5. The absinthe available in Ontario contains a maximum of 1mg/kg of thujone, which is the hallucinogen present in absinthe... Most European countries that allow absinthe sale/consumption have a maximum of 10 mg/kg of thujone, making it far more potent... Don't waste your money... You can buy a 26 oz bottle (a fifth as it's called stateside) of absinthe for about $80, making it an expensive way to get drunk...

And yes, if you are 20, you can drink in Ontario... The legal drinking age is 19... You will need government issued photo ID (drivers license is easiest) to enter the bars and casinos...

  6. you can drink at 19 in Ontario but Absinthe is illegal in Canada (just as it is in the USA) you must got o Europe to find it.  The reason you are hearing mixed reviews is because some have had real Absinthe (the hallucinogen) and many have had the fake absinthe they sell in North America (which is just REALLY strong alcohol).  Real absinthe is absolutely a hallucinogen. Unfortunately it can not be found in North America.

  7. Here is place, ask for Hill's Absinthe, from the Czech Republic it is $81.95 Can, the link is to the LCBO store our Liquor outlets and the 3 in Niagara Falls that stock it, the Pernod version is not available there, but in other city's and cost around the same amount.
