Easy Wood project Crayon organizer plans?

Hi, I'm looking for tips/plans/pictures of a easy wooden crayon holder/organizer for boy scouts. I've seen some really easy ones from scrap wood a long time ago and can't locate the instructions anymore . No need for fancy animal shaped one.

Just some tips to help make the holes for the crayons and stuff.

Any info would help.

  1. Take it from a mom, they aren't going to organize their crayons, and they will get boxes from Grandma (every time she sees them), from the restaurants, they will have left over crayons of all sizes and colors, that they don't want to get rid of, so, you want to make a box, that wont give them slivers, that is about the size of a box of diaper wipes, that they can decorate however they want to.  Focus on that, the actual decorations.  It would be cool if they could get help with hot gluing plastic race car wheels to the outside, for example.  Just show them how to make something they can use.  Good luck!  .... remember, a simple usable box!

  2. have you gone to the  boys scout website.. they have a lot of neat wood craft ideas.

  3. Well, there are literally, thousands of woodworking plans out there....

But to the basics....if you want individual holes for the crayons, you need a drill press.  I can see crayons getting broken off inside this type of holder, hehehe....

If you want a 'tray' type organizer, then a round nose, or v-groove router bit would do the trick.  Like these - http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=...

I couldnt find anything to fit your description in a quick search either... too many plan kits to sort thru, hehehe.

I'd suggest that you ask around other Boy Scout groups... most likely some of them have had a similar project.

    Good Luck
