  1. Here's a question for you to answer??? Are you boxing with your friend for down the road to join a team or are you doing it for fun???

If you and your friend are boxing for fun as a sport then I would not worry about getting a trainer.

If you and your friend box on a regular basis you both are going to get better and you would know what the other weakness is. I have a friend who is taller than me and we boxed on a regular basis. The first time he outright owned me to a point every punch he threw landed. A few more times we fought I gave him a harder fight but I still lost. The last time we fought I took him to 10 rounds and we were exhausted after that. We weren't looking to get on a team it is like playing one on basketball with a friend. If you were out playing basketball with friends are you looking to get on a team or doing for sport of exericise.

With you and your friend it will probably go one day you will win and next time he wins. That happened with me and a friend who used to go to my church. We boxed on a regular basis and the guy can fight. I won a few matches and he won a few.

The bottom line we did it as a workout sport.

Get some other exericising in as well as lifting weights and other cardio activity. By the way boxing is an excellent cardio workout.

  2. Yes sparing will improve but you also need to seek a good coach and joining a Boxing club to point out your weaknesses and mistakes :)***

  3. Only with a trainer watching on to ensure form is being kept. It takes time and the only thing to do is keep sparring and sparring and sparring. Then everything starts falling into place.

Hitting bags and focus mits are easy (they don't hit back), sparring if very tiring as the nervous energy just pours out at the start. In time you learn to relax and stop "wasting" energy and pick your shots.

Do it, it's great fun once you get your timing right.

  4. yep, but you also need an observer to watch and coach you on your mistakes.  There is also exercises you should be doing on the speed and heavy bag plus your rope work and physical exercises.

  5. yes and no. You'll get better but without proper training you may develop some bad habits. As long as you aren't looking to go pro I can't imagine it would be harmful. You'll get stronger and learn to slip, but to get really advanced you'll need a trainer

  6. definitely you would need training.  yes if you play bball every day you would get better but if you never knew the rules it would kind of limit how good you could be.

you need to know the basics.  when green people come in to spar you really blast for the fences with little technique.  you get over that the more you learn your technique and improve your basics.

you might want to consider having someone teach you at LEAST how to punch effectively and proper form and then spar from there.
