Easy invention for my 9 yr old son??

My son is doing a invention for summer school. We need some cheap and easy ideas that is approaite for a 9 year old. Any suggestions would be great? And paper mache? How to make exactly... glue, water ratio? Thanks

When I was 9, I made a project on the animals of Africa. Get a poster board and just fill it up with all types of animals that are located in Africa. He could put a couple facts about each animal too. I would have  done Paper Mache, but it is to messy with all the glue and everything. Hope this Helped!
