Easy points!! is this tacky or a good idea??

I live alone, I'm in my early 20's, and a grad student.

I am moving into an apt.

I can't decide if I should purchase just one large sofa, or should I get a living room set (sofa + loveseat or chair)

I rarely have company over. i'm not sure if having only one sofa is tacky, or if its practical for smaller apts.

thanks!

  1. Unless you need the sofa to sleep on, it would be better to get a smaller-sized apartment sofa or loveseat and use it in tandem with a lounge chair-- more comfy and conversational than a big solo sofa.

Also, don't think that the loveseat and lounge chair have to match.  That is the number one mistake people make when buying furniture.  Mix, don't match!

  2. one big sofa and two bean bags are very cool

  3. if the couch is cheaper go with that but if their the same price do the room set

  4. it would be practical and more cost efficient for you to just buy the one sofa if you rarely have company over save yourself the money and buy a nice flat screen

  5. get a large sofa and only one chair bc if u have company then u are screwed (SRRY 4 MY langauge ) u would want to get both a sofa and one chair if u do then your prepaired =]

  6. you should get one sofa and a small chair (not a recliner and not like a dinner chair but a chair, ya kno??) they shouldnt totally match but in the same color scheme. have fun decorating!

  7. i'd say get a wrap around sofa! it looks cool, its big, and its not tacky!

  8. It doesn't really matter- when you get married, your wife will make you throw it all out anyway.  I'd go for the most affordable (1 couch) and use the extra cash for something you will actually use and enjoy.

  9. i would get a set

  10. The key words I noticed here were "smaller apartment". In my experience, sectionals are too large for most smaller apts. I would go with a regular sized sofa, not a love seat. Mainly because if you want to stretch out in front of the TV you can, or simply curl up with a good book or significant other. There's not much room on a love seat for two people to comfortably lounge! In my first apartment, I had a standard sized futon and a standard size recliner. Nothing fancy, but like you I didn't entertain a whole lot either, and at most I had 4 people in my apt at one time. You could always buy some really in-expensive moon chairs even from WalMart in case of extra company.

So again~~standard sized sofa (or futon), normal sized recliner, and additional seating ONLY if you feel it may be necessary. But for a small apt, that should be quite sufficient.

    Good luck!

  11. u should ge a living room set

    if u have enough $$

    if not get 1

  12. If you dont have that much company anyway.. I probably would get a love seat, a ottoman and a very comfy overstuffed chair to read in * it would probably amount to getting one large sofa anyway* OR a long couch to laydown on and watch  movies.. You pick. The ottoman could aways be pushed against the wall to make extra seating. Here are some visual options..

a love seat and an overstuffed chair

a love seat and two individual chairs

( i personally think that you have to have atleast two items to sit on. A couch and a chair at the very least.

  13. Just get one sofa, a sectional that curves around.

  14. Get a sectional there are many types you can get and some of them are cheaper then most large sofas

  15. you could get a sofa (loveseat) and a couple of big chairs .. that's what we have an it looks awesome

  16. Unless your living room is quite large, I wouldn't even get a sofa.  Maybe a love seat and chair w/ottoman.  Seems like that would give you more options of furniture placement. Also, if you do need more seating, you can opt for smaller scaled chairs.  Seating 3 people on a sofa is just awkward - not conducive to conversation.  Good luck!
