Easy steps for shaping your bonsai?

I just bought 2 green mound Juiper tree. they're like little pine trees.

What steps do you take in making the plant into a bonsai.

For example cutting the roots, and areas to tie the plant.

Also i would like to know when to change the soil.

I'm going to get a little fisherman and try to make a little pond this would be great.

There's books on bonsai you can get to that will detail everything you ever wanted to know.
