  1. Depends what you want the end finish to be like.

You can do as suggested above and get it all stripped back and totally refinished.  That will cost around £200 assuming reasonable value for money - more if the guy is trying to rip you off.

Alternatively, you can just go to halfords. Buy some 1500 grit wet and dry paper and carefully rub the exposed paint until it gets back to a dull but 'consistant' finish. Also spend some time rubbing the step between the lacquer and the exposed paint to smooth out the ridge.  Then use some halfords lacquer to refinish.  The surface you are painting needs to be completely smooth before you paint over it.  Mask the whole car as overspray travells long distance and you don't want to damage the rest of it.  Make sure nothing can fall into the paint as it is drying. Including the stuff you used to cover up the rest of the car (old sheets or newspaper, etc... make sure the wind cannot blow them into the paint)

You'll need about 3 coats.  They can be applied within 1/2 an hour of eachother but they must be thin coats.  Then leave the whole thing to dry for about 2 weeks.  Finally, use a cutting polish to or some fine 2000 / 1500 grit wet and dry to bring it up to a full shine.

Edit: make sure you do the minimal amount of sanding needed to achieve the proper finish.  If you sand any area of the paint too much then you will expose the primer under the paint and that will be a total disaster.

  2. I would guess the wing has been resprayed at some time and its not been done very well.

To bring the wing up to original spec it really wants all the old lacquer and paint stripping off and completely repainting.

If you just paint on top of the lacquer or re-lacquer it then the old lacquer could lift and take the new lacquer off with it.

  3. cant really patch it as there will be a step in the laquire...sand,respray the wholelot then re laqure
