Are there any easy ways to find out if someone was covered by life insurance? My father-in-law died and all he left behind was a room full of paper dating back 30 years. He had a pension, not sure if that means anything.

  1. Only if you are the executor of the estate.

The pension is not inheritable, but if he has a surviving spouse, they could still be collecting widow's benefits.

There's no data collection that will search out the policy for you.  Your state insurance company doesn't track it.  The EASIEST way, is to go through cancelled checks, to see what company he was paying.

  2. One of my friends asked me this kind of questions before,I found helpful here.http://insurance.online-frees.info/insur...

  3. I assume you're appointed executor of his estate, get a copy of his credit profile, it should give you a nice list of companies who he's had dealings with, including insurance companies who you can then query.

  4. Find his bank statements or checkbook and see if he was paying premiums to any insurance company.
