Question:

Eating Bedding?

I just got the new CareFree recycled Bedding for my two rats cage and one of the girls is eating it. I am wondering if this is bad for her. My first instinct says yes, but I'm not sure cause I have never had rats before. Help me out please. :)

  1. It shouldn't hurt her, but you have to remember that every bit of bedding that she eats is some nutritious food that she won't eat, so don't encourage the behavior.

If, over time, she starts to lose weight or look sickly, I'd remove the bedding, but for now just shoo her away from it and offer her something more tasty? :)

  2. She is probably just eating it cause it is new, if it persists i would change to something else.  My boyfriend's chinchilla eats just about everything, including the wood it's cage is made out of.  Sometimes they just do it to file thier teeth a bit.

  3. I see no problem in this. rats are known to eat almost anything. Its better then eatine pine/cedar shavings. (My hamster did this alot) But i think your rat should be fine.

  4. No they'll be fine.

  5. I Have 2 Rats

And They Have The Hard Bedding

which Is bedding thats hard not soft

but if you got the soft

    dont let them eat it

    even hamsters can't eat it

the hard is ok but they shouldn't eat it with their small throat ..

if u got the soft  it is really bad becuz it causes Digesting Problems..

So Make Sure To Watch Wat They Do When They Go To The Restroom okaii

    If they dont

    ask a  Rat/Reptiles/rodents professional vet...

    Hope I helped GOOD LUCK
