My friend accused me of having an eating disorder. She caught me counting calories and said that counting calories leads to an eating disorder/anorexia. I did admit that I am careful to only eat what I know I can work off. I eat healthy but still count calories carefully. I think shes just exaggerating. Tell me what you think.

  1. It's okay to be counting calories to a certain point. If you're counting calories so that you can lose weight..then yes I would say that you have a problem. It has to do with self-image. Are you counting them so that you can look good? If so...you may have a problem there or borderline to something.

You would almost need to talk with a counselor or doctor about your calorie counting habits to see what they can make of it. Some people who count calories are in great danger of eating disorders, while others are just fine.

  2. I think it all depends on how you view yourself. If you just want to be healthy, it's fine. But if you think you're fat and you need to lose 20 pounds immediately, you should probably get help.

  3. Lots of people count calories. In fact, there is a computer program out there that makes it easy. It's called Diet Power. I loved that program! But anyway, I do not think counting calories necessarily leads to an eating disorder. It's logical to compare calories in and calories out (by exercise).

However, I found an even easier way to do it and it really works. I read a book called "Negative Calorie Effect". Basically, you fill up on complex carbs like oatmeal, high fiber foods like refried beans, brown rice and fresh veggies. Eat everything else in moderation.

Then run every other day for 20 minutes and vary your speed so your body doesn't get used to it. (Remember to warm up and cool down).

Weight drops off like its supposed to...a little at a time.

So, no I would not think you have a disorder because you count calories.

  4. Depends on how many calories you are limiting yourself to and how many you burn off while exercising.

  5. depends on how many calories you eat a day...

  6. If you are eating a reasonable amount of calories each day then you're fine. If you are, in a way, starving yourself, your friend may be right.

  7. Just because you count calories doesn't mean you have an eating disorder. You can count calories on a diet also.

  8. I think the question to know would be, how many calories are you limiting yourself to.
