All the girls in my prom group are vegetarians, so we're going to eat at the Taj Mahal, some Indian restaurant. We're going in like 4 hours. I've heard nightmare stories about people and their first time eating Indian food, and I don't want to ruin my entire prom. I don't have a sensitive stomach, but I don't feel like taking a chance. I'm going to attach the menu link, so is there something I should eat or something I should take so I know I'll be fine? Thanks a million. Btw, i'm not a vegetarian.

  1. Ordering Non-vegetarian is only possible if the girls don't mind as the Indian vegetarians don't eat when someone is eating non vegetarian in the same table so be careful...Ask them before hand...

You can order Indian salad as it has no dressings just lemon may be. In Chicken dishes "Kadhai Cicken",ChickenSaag","Chicken Mushroom" are the lighter versions. You can even order something from the tandoor.

In vegetarian , vegetable platter,Mushroom muttar,Aloo Mattar(Potato Peas),..DO NOT TAKE anything cream base like Malai Kofta,Shahi Taj Paneer,Navrattan Curry,Saag Kofta.Try to eat more bread and rice than the main dishes.Eat Yogurt along with it. In appetizers avoid Samosas or anything fried.even if you happen to get anything heavy eat as little as possible Rest good Luck Enjoy.

  2. I didn't have a problem the first time I ate Indian food.  The most important thing you should know is it is spicy.  If the waiter gives you a spice option, I would go a little mild if spicy foods upset my stomach.  Other than that, you should be fine.

  3. OMG! Evidently you have a lot of knowledge. Have some cucumber raita which is cucumbers and yoghurt, this helps with digestion along with munching on fennel seeds and have some of their wonderful hot tea.

Go to Mcdonalds and get a happy meal as this place is way too classy.

If you go avoid the curried dishes as they are way too strong for a sensitive palate such as yours, honestly I eat at quite a few non-american restaurants and this is something you should really try.

  4. Believe it or not, I have eaten there!  I was visiting a friend at OSU, anyway the food is pretty good but just to be safe, pop an Imodium before dinner and keep an extra one handy.

You can also order mild dishes, you will have fun!  Enjoy the prom!  I never made it to mine :(

  5. if u do not like spicey food then leave it alone, if u do then enjoy it is very tasty.

  6. Tandori chicken is mellow. The bread is good too- that should hold you over! Stay away from Currys, but taste it or else, like Garlic, you're going to be smelling it all nite~! LOL

Have fun at your prom & remember to make sure you're in LOTS of PIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (You'll thank me years from now!)

    Mich  :)

  7. i ate indian food once, and i did not like it at all.... it was very tasteless, and dull........ i would recommend eating before you go, and then pick something off the menu that is inexpensive and seems like you might like it.... i bet you'll be going to mcdonalds afterwards

  8. Most Indian food is actually on the bland side. There are regions in India where they use incredibly hot peppers in their cooking but you won't find them at the restaurants. There really isn't anything to worry about.

  9. Take a tagamet or anything for heartburn , now. Most indian dishes are spicy. Do not eat salad it will give you gas, LOL

  10. If the girls were okay with you eating chicken, the chicken and mushrooms sounds okay. Just eat something with minimal spices and sauces. Eat something simple. Fill up on an appetizer like soup or bread (that's always safe) so you don't have to finish your entire meal if it comes and you think it could make you sick. Good luck! Have fun at Prom. Bring some Pepto or Tums with you!

  11. INDIAN FOOD IS THE BEST!!

    HOPED YOU ENJOYED EATING IT.

SORRY I DIDNT FIND UR QUESTION UNTIL AFTER YOUR PROM.

    HOPE YOU ENJOYED THE DISHES.

    THEY ARE YUMMY.

I'M INDIAN AND I JUST HAD SOME.

  12. Well, I'm of Indian descent, so I know what you can eat. This sounds like a typical Americanized Indian restaurant, which means none of the food is really too spicy. Just stay away from any 'vindaloo' and avoid anything with dairy-based sauces (can make you feel heavy). I would also caution you to avoid the seafood! It is often overcooked. Vegetarian meals are your best bet, not only to keep the girls happy but for hygienic reasons. Among the veggie stuff, here's what is relatively mild.

    41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 47, 48, 51 (my favorite!), 54, 55.

Among the breads, 58 and 63 are your best bets. The rest are way, way too greasy and/or strong. 62 is a fairly good choice too but rather heavy.

For dessert, order the gulab jamun and ask them to hold the syrup.
