My 4 week old usually sleeps 3-4 hours at night and then eats between 2.5-4 ounces of formula, but during the day he usually eats 2-4 ounces every 2-3 hours, and today he ate 7 ounces within a 3 hour period, is that normal?

  1. I agree, it could very well be a growth spurt.

My daughter (now 5 months old) would sometimes eat 7 or 8 ozs in one session and I would end up wearing half of it 30 minutes later. If I did not feed her all the milk she wanted she would fuss and cry. Your baby knows what's best for them. There is no set rule on how much your child will or is supposed to eat. Feed them until they are content. My pedi said that eating that much was perfectly fine for her, I think she was around 2 months old at that point. That is my best advice.

  2. More is good. Less is bad. Feed them as much as they want as long as they dont make themselves sick. You might want to try a teaspoon or 2 of rice cereal in the bottle to hold him over. Make sure you hold the baby up right with cereal in the bottle. Rice in the bottle can increase ear infections, but it helped me with my 3 kids.

  3. yes. probably a growth spurt.  i thought my son was gonna eat us out of house and home when he went through them. it will amaze you just how much they can chow.

  4. Could be a growth spurt.
