Eating and Pregnancy?

I am 22 weeks pregnant, and was wondering is it normal to switch every so weeks from wanting to eat everything in sight to having very little of an appetite??

Is it also normal to crave foods you normally would not eat?? I have lately just been wanting junk food, and I am use to snacking on fruits and veggies, but they aren't hitting the spot...I feel extremely fat.

  1. My appetite seemed to change a lot when I was pregnant.  The most horrible part was that I really craved fried foods.  Mozzarella sticks were a MUST.  I tried to eat as healthy as possible while still giving in to my cravings.

  2. I think it's normal. That's how I was when I was pregnant. And my son came out just fine. So try not to worry too much.

  3. I'm 26 weeks, and I go from wanting to eat everything in sight to not being able to eat a whole lot.

Before I got pregnant, I was a healthy eater. Now I crave greasy cheeseburgers. I say, as long as you dont go overboard with the junk and keep your weight under control, you have nothing to worry about.

  4. Totally normal. Sometimes food will be totally appealing, and sometimes just thinking about it will make you want to barf.

  5. All very normal. I went threw all of that:)

  6. All normal.

I am a junk food junkie, but while pregnant was craving cucumber and butter sandwiches, and potato chips. I usually go for sweets. I remember one night I waited too long to eat dinner. I inhaled most of a medium pizza all by myself in less than 30 minutes. And then I didn't have room to breathe for the rest of the night!

And it's normal to feel fat, too. I felt so much bigger than I actually was! It was worst in the bath tub, I felt huge because the water wouldn't cover my belly anymore!

  7. As a general rule (but certainly not always) your body will crave something that it's lacking, so in your case your body may be a little lacking in sugars, or it could even be a sign of gestational diabetes but don't get worried as that's only a maybe. I craved junk food alot around the 16-24week mark, so maybe it's just what the pregnant body wants at that stage in pregnancy. I have found for the main of my pregnancy otherwise though that I have been craving foods I normally hate like pumpkins and bananas. I also craved chocolate for a while which I am allergic too, but for some reason didn't react to. Your body just completely does it's own thing and makes it's own rules when it's pregnant. Try and keep up a healthy diet as best you can but don't feel bad for indulging. As for the gain and loss on appetite that will probably contiinue all the way through if you're anything like me. You can always bring it up with your dr at your next appointment for a more "medical" explanation but I really wouldn't stress you sound completely normal.

  8. It's normal.  Don't worry.

Your appetite will fluctuate up and down.
