I'm trying to make a budget for our trip to the Bahamas. Does anyone know about the market prices and restaurants? Any kind of information you could give me on the subject would be wonderful. Thanks.

  1. Mostly everything is imported so prices will be high. City Market in Nassau (owned by Winn-Dixie) will be a place to pick up snacks. Many travelers are starting to pack a suitcase with snacks to save some $$$. Especially if you have children. A bag of chips can cost you $5.00

Expect to pay 30-40% more for dinners and food. Be careful in some restaurants they add 15% service charge on to the bill. You end up over tipping. Service is not like the states, they are on "island time"

If you like fish check out Arawak Cay, great place to try out conch (konk) prepared different ways.

Once you get to Nassau, ask the locals where they eat or shop.

    Good Luck)

  2. Restaurants are pretty expensive in the Bahamas.  You didn't say where you are staying.  If you're staying in Nassau, there are places to eat from McDonalds to very expensive restaurants.  For a place to eat thats comparable to a Fridays, Applebees, Bennigans, etc...expect the prices to be about 40%  higher than US restaurants.

If you're staying on Paradise Island, there are fewer choices, still pretty pricey.  For Atlantis Resort - many of their menu's are online and show the prices - you can get a good idea from there.

  3. word of advice if you want to send low ask the local where they eat and don't eat at any place on  Paradise Island cause its really expensive there
