Question:

Eating out while veg?

I became a vegetarian in the past 6 months during which I wasn't working outside the home, I am about to go back to work on August 25, I am wondering if I could get suggestions of good restaurants that I can get meatless options? Bringing my lunch will probably not be an option as I will be on the road a lot, so I am looking for somewhere I can stop quickly and isn't super expensive. I live on the east coast if that helps. Thanks in advance.

  1. on the east side?

Find the restaurant Veggies To Go.

  2. In the San Francisco area, at least, almost every restaurant has a veggie option on the menu. On the down side, there is usually just one, and it's almost always a portobello mushroom. So it can be a bit boring.

However, most cities of any size have at least one vegetarian restaurant.

  3. most restaurants if you ask will have a veg. menu but other than that i can't be of much help. good luck. :D

  4. Most fast food places have veg options like BK veggie burger or taco bell.  You can order any salad at any food place without meat.

  5. Make sure your salad is anything other than "Iceberg" lettuce. That lettuce is pure junk. No nutritional value whatsoever. Make it romaine or leafy greens. Subway is fast food. Anything other than the veggie option is pure junk. Subway meals in fact contain more junk and calories then a Big Mac Meal. Subway is NOT a healthy alternative for meat eaters. But they are sure brainwashed to think it is....

  6. get a salad from Mcdonalds or wendeys or chick-fil-a they have yummy salads!

  7. Order salads or go to Subway and get a veggie sandwich

  8. For me and I miss them now a place with a salad bar is always a good choice, most place that have them still are quite generous and have them well stocked, Pizza Hut, Bonanza, Sizzler and other buffet places, and those to have veggie options for main course, I have check out alot of there websites and find they can be the perfect places for a veggie or vegan eating out on a regular basis, here in Canada our Wendy's used to have them but health laws changed and now very few places bother.

  9. I have yet to find a restaurant that has nothing that van be veg*nized. There's nothing wrong with asking for a salad/sandwich/pasta dish without the meat.

  10. I've been out with people who are vegan and just went to everyday restaurants.  There is something on the menu you can eat everywhere, just let them know, no meat.  They will surely have salads and steamed veggies most anywhere.  Now will it taste good?  You better bring your Mrs. Dash.

  11. I'm not sure what all is on the east coast, but here is what i do when i eat out.

Wendy's: A chicken caesar salad without the chicken and a frosty

McDonalds: Fries and frosty or a side salad ( i know, not very healthy!)

White Castle (I'm not sure if you have them): Mozzarella sticks/onion rings (i don't really like them thouhg) and fries or something

BK: Veggie Burger or frosty or something

    I hope I helped!!!

  12. Uh. You could just stop and eat some grass. Or... you could eat meat.

  13. All delis or sandwich shops have a good veggie sandwich that shouldn't cost more than $5 or $6.

You can pretty much eat anywhere and get a vegetarian meal if you're not too picky. Some places you may have to settle for a bean burrito or salad.

When eating in a restaurant be aware that your veggie meal may come into contact with meat or oils - for example veggie burgers cooked on the same grill as beef burgers, just ask if you order something where that's a possibility.

Since you'll be eating in different cities I'd suggest doing a Yahoo Yellow pages search for restaurants in that area. They have a vegetarian section.  Indian restaurants can also be a good way to go for a nice meal as would be Greek.  Most Chinese takeouts also have at least one great tofu or veggie dish.

Another option is to find grocery stores that offer pre-made food in the deli. You can get a pretty good lunch on grocery store soup, bakery, sandwiches, and salads. Just check the ingredients for things like chicken stock.
