Question:

Eating the breadsticks without ordering?

What would a restaurant do if someone came in and sat at a table, and just ate the complimentary breadsticks without actually ordering? Like at Olive Garden, if you asked for some breadsticks while you were looking at the menu, and then you just ate the breadsticks and left?

Could that be a handy way for hobos to get free food?

  1. Breadsticks are fattening.   I miss the complimentary relish trays with celery, carrots and radishes.

And it's really not cool at all to eat the free food and leave.

  2. The restaurant I work at charges you $5 for bread if you dont order any food but ask for bread.  I work in a fine dining restaurant so that really only happens occasionaly in the lounge area.

Some may think that its outrageous to charge for bread but  what you need to consider is that you need to help pay for the plate it was served on, the butter, the oven it was warmed in, the electric bill for powering the oven and restaurant, the wage for the dishwasher who will wash your  dishes, the restaurants decor/ambiance, the fresh cut flowers on the table, and, of course, the cost of the bread itself--which can sometimes be quite spendy.

  3. It could but if the restaurant took notice they could ban the person from coming back in.  A restaurant is a private business and has the right to refuse service to any one.  The only course of action the person being refused has is to prove the refusal was prejudice in nature such as race, gender, handicap, sexual orientation, etc.

  4. Where I live, there is a restaurant/bar that has free wings and such certain nites of the week - and there are some freeloaders that come in to eat the free wings (plates and plates of them, mind you) and drink water.  Those who choose to do that - get to pay for a soda that they never did drink.  Pretty sad when that soda costs more than a drink at happy hour price.

  5. We would present them with a guest check charging for the bread...

  6. well I mean if you ordered something andthey messed it up and then you decided to leave, even when they said want something else or something, you can leave without paying.

but your not suppose to get free breadsticks or chips, unless you order something. Even a drink maybe. some places you have to pay at least 10 dollars

  7. I doubt it.  I live in Las Vegas.  Hobos and street people used to flock here for free and cheap foods.  Now everything is sky high on prices.

Restaurants wont be taken advantage of.  They wont cater to free loaders.

Did you hear about the guy who ran out on his check, the owner chased him across a busy street.  The runner got hit and killed by a car.  There are many ways to be punished.
