  1. While the French aren't well disposed towards vegatarians they do not eat vegatarians.  Oh wait...that's not what you meant!

(Sorry about that the devil made me do it)

But seriously, there are Vegetarian choices in Paris. This somewhat depends on how you define vegetarian. If you refuse all animal products, including cheese and eggs you're going to be in some difficulty. But, if you don't then, to begin with, there isn't a chef in France who can't whip you up an excellant omelet.  If, in addition,  you eat fish and shellfish then there is hardly a restaurant that you can't have a great meal in.

As for places that are formally vegetarian then try the following:

    Le Grenier de Notre Dame

Address: 18 rue de la Bucherie, 75005

    Tel.: +33 01 43 29 98 29

    Le Potager du Marais

    Au Grain de Folie

Address: 24, rue La Vieuville, 75018

    Tel.: +33 01 42 58 15 57

    Metro: Abbesses

    Le Marais

  2. Usually, in Spain, France and Italy you don't find vegetarian restaurants because there are lots of dishes based on vegetables so don't expect to find them easily, the ones you'll find surely aren't famous.

Don't worry you won't have problems anyway, just go in ordinary restaurants and choose between the dishes with vegetables.

ADVICE: don't go asking for a vegetarian restaurant down the streets because they'll stare badly at you.

  3. oh god..you'll struggle..the French are carnivores

get a copy of Pariscope...it lists all the restaurants and may have what you're looking for

  4. It is actually easier than many people think to eat vegetarian and even vegan in Paris.

Here are sites listing and reviewing vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Paris:

If you avoid traditional cuisine, many normal restaurants, especially (but not only) ethnic ones, have several vegetarian dishes, sometimes even vegan. I avoid animal products when I eat out and I have always been able to eat out in Paris. I will admit that strict vegans will have a harder time eating out in Paris but I usually manage to eat mostly vegan.

I will add that vegetarian dishes in non-vegetarian restaurants tend to taste much better. To be honest I have only eaten in 2 vegetarian restaurants in Paris, most vegetarian/vegan restaurants serve such bad, flavorless food that they harm the cause rather than serve it. Find a good Moroccan restaurant and get a vegetable couscous, you'll love it! In restaurants, most main courses are meat or fish-based, what I do is order "à la carte' and choose only appetizers or sides.

  5. they dont even have the word" vegetarian" in their vocabulary, its so hard to eat over there if your a veggie

  6. When i went with my veggie wife we had to resort to pizzas and cheese toasties.  Not exactly haute cuisine!!

I am sure if you search hard enough there are some veggie restaurants but it certainly isn't easy.

  7. I'm vegan and I like the restaurant called "Aquarius", 40 Rue Gergovie, Paris.

"la victoire suprême du coeur" is also famous among vegetarians and vegans.

  8. I absolutely can NOT imagine why ANYONE would go to Paris... or ANYWHERE in France... and want to eat Vegetarian.

You will have a hard time finding TOFU in a supermarket in France... let alone finding a vegetarian restaurant... good or otherwise in that country.

  9. Just got back from being there and went with two vegans.  We would either see if a vegetable dish was on posted menu or we would go in and ask if they could make something.  Some could/some could not.  Some places in Les Halles had restaurants with a vegetable dish that my friends could not stop talking about.  And, they had FABULOUS hot chocolate there, too!!! Just off train station past the famous restaurant, on the corner can't recall name....
