  1. Ebay doesn't allow you to "jump" your bid by that much at one leap. You set the maximum amount you're "willing" to pay and the system will outbid the highest bidder by the minimum.

So if it's a low priced item they will outbid the curent bidder by 50 cents. Then they send an email to that guy letting him know he's outbid.

He can come back in and try to outbid you by entering a new "max" amount. If it doesn't beat what you've set as your maximum he's notified again. If it does then you're notified that the bid exceeds your personal "max" and you're given the opportunity to out bid that person.

This way the auction stays fair and you don't overpay for an item. If you could have gotten it for $5.50 but you put in $10 the system won't allow you to just pay $10 and outbid everyone in one blow. BUT the good news is, if you win, you may not have to pay as much as you were WILLING to pay.

  2. You increased your maximum bid by $5.00, right?  But you're saying the amount of your actual bid only went up by $0.50, is that right?  If so, this is why:  Let's say the previous bidder bid $10.00.  You would need to bid $10.50 to have the highest bid.  You put in a maximum bid of $15.00, but your bid shows up as $10.50.  That's becasue $10.50 is all that's needed to beat the previous bidder.  If someone else bids $11.00, eBay will automatically bid $11.50 for you (because $11.50 is less than your maximum bid of $15.00).  This will continue to happen until someone bids more than $15.00.  Hope that helped.

  3. uh the your bid will only be as high as it has to be.whenever someone else bids on the item, and it is less than you 5 bucks or so, the price will go up, but you will still be the high bidder.(if that makes sence)
