Question:

Ebay Guitar Problem!?

Hey, so I purchased a guitar from ebay and the seller described the guitar as:

- In excellent condition

- Great tone, sustain and volume

- Great projection and crystal clear intonation.

The ebay guitar seller's Return policy is as follows:

- Returns are accepted only when the item arrives not as described in the listing.

So I won the bid for the guitar for $260 and when the guitar arrived, it had this huge issue with fret buzzing so I decided to take it to a locial Luthier to get his input on the condition of the fret buzzing. He said that the frets needed to be worked on to get rid of the buzz and that it would cost $42 to fix. After getting the Lutheir's estimate, I contacted the original seller of the guitar and he said that the buzzing of the frets wasn't significant enough to violate his "great tone and crystal clear intonation" listing of the guitar.

In my mind, this qualifies for a refund in his return policy.

Should I file a dispute for a refund?

Thanks for answering!

  1. That was a $42. lesson Nothing More. e-bay is not one of my sources for buying anything much less a musical instrument.

I am sure that not ALL the "merchants" on e-bay are "flight by night operators" but a few of them spoil it for everyone else.

There is nothing wrong with buying via the web from "reputable" stores with a physical address and phone no. listed on their web page.

Most (if not all) of these stores have up to a 45 day price warranty as well as a reasonable return policy without any

    "restocking fees".

As for your "merchandise": If the instrument (aside from the $42 extra cost) is what you really wanted and in your own evaluation is worth the additional cost then is not worth the

time and efford to try and recover your money.

I will let e-bay know however about your experience with this merchant. Let it be a warning to future buyers.

Thank for the message to all of us.

  2. You should consider this a $42 lesson in why you shouldn't buy guitars on eBay.

  3. well u now have learned a lesson not to buy a guitar on ebay without going and inspecting it...Just cut your losses and pay the $42, next time go to your local guitar center or guitar store and purchase a new or used one from there...

  4. Lots of luck with this one.....I just got done telling someone that I don't like the idea of buying a musical instrument on the Internet.....I hope he sees this.....this is one of the problems that I'm talking about. To me you should never buy an guitar unless you sit and play it.....you want to hear the sound in person and you most importantly want to feel the action. Excellent condition means that you shouldn't have to have it fixed, so yes I do think that you have a dispute for a refund, having to spend $40.00 to have the frets fixed is not excellent condition as far as I'm concerned !!!!!!! I hope that all people thinking about buying a guitar from the Internet read this, and my previous comments on this subject !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again don't buy a guitar unless you sit and play it first !!!!!!!!!!!

  5. hmm i dont know if risking ur positive bidder thingy is worth it i mean ur guitar is fixed now and it was only $42.
