Ebay Question: If I am the highest bidder, but the reserve is not met, will I have to buy the ebay item?

I have a bid of $14,000 on a vehicle on Ebay Motors. Its the highest bid, but the reserve has not been met. There are plenty of days left before the auction ends, and I'm unsure if someone will bid higher than me.

The Buy it Now price is $17,233.00

If the auction ends, and I am the highest bidder, and the seller wishes to sell it to me for my price, will I have to buy it?

Or will he have to contact me first, make a deal, and then I get the vehicle for the price.

Will I have an option?

  1. Have you tried to cantact the seller at all yet?

you should! you're about to hand over 14G's to a person you have never met for a car you have never tested---->?!

but relax, the seller has to agree to your offer first:)

  2. Yes, you will have to purchase it if your bid wins. That is if the seller is OK with the price you have bid. He could also say forget it because he's not happy with the price. I believe their is a way to retract your bid. Click on the items page and look under bids. There should be a section there on how to cancel your bid.

  3. no, if you dont pass the reserve then it will just end. you wont win or have to buy it,

  4. You do not have to buy it if the reserve is not met.   You may contact the seller after the auction ends to see if he/she can make arrangements just for you.

  5. No, you are not obligated to buy if the reserve is not met.  They will have to discuss it with you upon auction end, to make arrangements if they wish to offer you the vehicle at a price lower than the reserve.

  6. The item WONT sell if the reserve isnt met, BUT the seller can OFFER it to you at your bid. If you dont wish to purchase it, you can decline to buy it.
