Ecclestone comes forward for Schumacher’s Defence
The CEO, Formula One Group, Bernie Ecclestone, extends his full support towards the seven times Formula One Champion Michael Schumacher saying that he was doing a great job and FIA is happy with him.
Schumacher, the heroic driver who had been able to stamp ninety one grand Prix victories, one hundred and fifty four podium finishes and a total of one thousand three hundred and sixty nine points in his career between the years 1991 and 2006, had not been able to do very good since the start of this season. He has returned to the track after a break of three years as he announced his retirement in the year 2007. A lot of hype was created before his return at the start of this year however his return had not been at all what was anticipated from him. So far he had been able to gather only thirty four points and stands at the ninth place of the Drivers’ Standings. On the other hand his team mate, Nico Rosberg, has proved to be a much better racer all through the season and had been able to finish many of the races far better than Schumacher. Nico stands at the seventh place so far with a total of seventy four points.
Schumacher has faced the most severe criticism of his career after the past two races. On his return from the Canadian Grand Prix his race was disapproved by the critics badly calling it to be the worst of his life. Moreover, his last race in Valencia was another poor finish as he ended at the fifteenth place though it was expected that after the harsh comments that he received on his return from Montreal he would give his best to wash away all the prior disappointments.
However, despite the poor performances the racer is still under the protection of his team as well as FIA. Last month it was the Mercedes GP chief executive, Nick Fry who came forward for his defence saying that the team is confident about his potential and it is only a matter of a few races and the star will be able to shine on the track once again. Now after a poor racing spectacle witnessed in Valencia, it is the Formula One boss who has stepped forward for his rescue. Ecclestone said that any man coming to the circuit after such a long time is not expected to show miracles, however he said that everybody at FIA especially his team crew is happy the way the racer is getting back to form and it is hoped that he will perform better in the upcoming races.
Alternatively, the other drivers at the series have a different point of view. The current chart topper, Lewis Hamilton said that now one must not expect a lot from him as it is not easy for him to beat the drivers who are much younger to him. He added that now the youngsters have a thirst for victory that he had years ago. Hamilton also concluded that what he is doing is good enough for the 41 year old driver.
Moreover, there are also rumours that the German must be encouraged to call off his comeback. A few weeks back some of the newspapers as well as websites endorsed the news that the Mercedes GP team is considering to replace him with the Renault star Robert Kubica for the upcoming season.
So far Michael Schumacher’s spirits are high and he stands firmly on the stance that he could beat anybody once he gets his momentum back. Of course, his fans also want to see him back in form and so do the entire FIA officials.
