Eclipse GS transmission problem

i have a 03 eclipse GS and the rpm wont go past 4500...and when it does hit 4500, it makes a terrible, horrific noise....and sometimes it takes a long time to shift or it shifts hard...im assuming its the transmission...does anyone know what the prob may be and estimate how much its gonna cost me?

Yes this sounds like transmission problem. Depending on what exactlly is wrong with the tranny it will be costly. Most Transmission places will charge anywhere from $300-500 just to drop the trans. down to see whats wrong... then you will have the choice to either rebuild or go brand new. Brand new trans. cost anywhere from $1200-1800 depending on where you buy it from. Rebuild is a little cheaper but may take longer to get car up and running.

What transmission you are having, AT or MT?

IT's normal for a AT that don't go pass 4500, Mitsubishi is a honda or rotary....
