Eclipse or Cavalier?

Im about to get my first car and me and my parents found a Cavalier for about 10,000 with a little over 40,000 miles on it. We were pretty sure that we were gonna get it but then we found an 02 Eclipse GS. Its about the same price as the Cavalier but with 70,000 miles on it. Insurance is about the same to for a 16 year old guy. So should i get the Cavalier with the less mileage but not as good as an Eclipse? Or should i get the Eclipse with more mileage on it? the eclipse is better more fun car to drive with about same gas mileage

its also nicer looking

I'm not big fan of American cars because its harder to do self service on them there's just more for imports in selection and easy to work on

When you crunch the numbers, there's no rational reason to get the Eclipse:

Before you bite the bullet and take the Chevy, you might want to take a look at an '04 Pontiac Grand Am -- it's at least a little sportier than the Cavalier.

Eclipse is a straight forward sports car so great to handle & great Pick up. Unfortunately this comes with lousy gas mileage.

The Cavalier has great pick up but with small curb weight. So it'd have better gas mileage. It does have good heritage. Chevy is known for great dependable engines and cars.

Me I'd take a newer car with less mileage for same money. Since they have newer engine technology as well as safety features.

10K for an 04 cavalier is waaaaay pricey....   That car books at around 7,500 tops.

The eclipse has a lot of miles on it and may not h ave much life left.

I would pass on both...  unless you can get the dealer down on the cavalier.  Look it up on kbb.com
