  1. how about instead of a carpet, you plant grass. instead of the bed, sleep on a bambo mat.

  2. use less power

    florescent lights

    plants are good

    chemicals are bad

  3. put some plants or aquarium to your room,. have a bigger window for a nice view outside... buy a new cabinet ...

  4. First, buying a bunch of new stuff, even if it's labled "green" is NOT eco-friendly.

However if you are in need of new things, or replacing items, then there are some things you can buy.

My husband and I live on a permaculture farm, in VERY earth friendly ways.

One of the VERY best things I've ever purchased for our bedroom was a down comforter.  I also have very nice flannel sheets (good quality/high thread count) on the bed.

With the flannel sheets and the down comforter we are able to keep the heat off in our bedroom.  We live in Idaho, high mountain desert.  Five days ago, we had a 50mph blizzard, with wind chill bringing the temp into the negative 60's (F)!!!  Still didn't need to turn the heat on in the bedroom.

Skip wall to wall carpet altogether.  Check out more earth friendly flooring, like bamboo.  It actually makes really pretty flooring, and since bamboo is a grass, it is HIGHLY renewable.

Shop thrift stores and garage sales for furnishings.  You might be shocked at the really gorgeous items you can get.

Mostly though, make due with what you alread have.  The dressers I use...my Mom bought them before I was even born.  Over 40 years later and they're still holding my clothes just fine!

P.S.  If you live in a hot area, install a ceiling fan, so you can sleep comfortably without using A/C.

  5. You could go all out with this...

    *recycled hardwood floors,

    *eco paint,

*reclaimed wood or bamboo furniture (bamboo is the fastest growing wood and is highly replenishable)

*organic or bamboo sheets & curtians (they also make fabric out of bamboo)

    *wooden hangers

*Handmade rag rug (made with used clothing)

*energy saving light bulbs in your lamps

  6. Natural Home magazine has some great ideas

    here's a few

organic cotton sheets or other bedding

    milk paints

    solatubes for daylighting

LED lights for darker areas (some help grow plants)

    etc

  7. You could go out and buy all new eco friendly products like furniture and sheets but what might be better is buying used products so no additional fossil fuels etc are used to produce new products. You would also eliminate the old products from ending up in a landfill.

You could use beeswax candles for light.

You could install a ceiling fan to eliminate or minimize the need for AC.

Conversely you could add blankets on the bed in the winter to eliminate or reduce the need for heat. '
