Would you consider eating vegetarian 2-3 times a week to help our environment and help abolish world hunger?

(and there are so many other benefits too!)

Here's some info.

  1. Not necessarily. One thing I would be very careful to avoid within the Green Party is discussing this in terms of party policy. Our problem is that we are getting too many issues on the table. Voters rebel at the thought of a political party telling them what to eat.

We have a lot of vegans and vegetarians within the Green Party. and many of them are really doctrinaire in terms of veganism / vegetarianism.

We have a hard time keeping it clear in voters minds that Green Party has no agenda to force vegan lifestyle on people.

There are situations that clearly require eating meat. When grazing animals overpopulate their range, they starve, or they are eaten. There is no  vegan way to avoid this. I exclude from vegan ways, extermination of the species involved.

We can turn the task of eating the grazing animals over to carnivores. But very simply this has no environmental benefit compared with eating them ourselves. It does not do anything to solve human world hunger.

We can compete vigorously with the grazers of the world, restrict their habitat so that we can feed people instead of other species. But is that really an environmental solution?

Might it be necessary to reduce human populations so that we do not need to put such pressure on other species?

  2. I probably could.

  3. I hunt, don't blast me for my desires, I don't blast you.  My wife and I live pretty green, and are working towards more, including off the grid living.  I mentioned I hunt, because that is also my ground of reason.  I'm just as concerned for this environment as anyone.  We garden and bring meat in anyway that we can, but never taking more than is unhealthy for the environment.  We just prefer knowing what we are eating.  We have no problem having all veggie dishes a few times a week.  Especially in the summer when there are so many goodies to harvest.  I don't like the idea of government control on this, though. Just like we shouldn't allow the overpopulation of different species.  But, with government, if they make a mistake, Oops, we better not try that again.  If you or I s***w up, there's always legal recourse.  That's why we are moving more towards green anyway.  I don't want to be dependent on anyone, anymore than I have too.
