Can someone please give me some examples on how to have an ecofriendly christmas?

All of our extended families (both sides) have opted to not exchange gifts this year.  There aren't any young children so  Santa will not be a factor.  Christmas is about the gathering of family anyway so we decided to just not swap c**p this year.  Not only are we not spending money we can't afford to spend, we are not driving back and forth to shopping malls, standing in lines, and generally getting stressed out.  We are all just going to get together and visit instead.  And eat of course.

If you are still exchanging gifts, I would order online.  You can shop whenever you want, not have to drive, and there are a lot of online stores will deliver them already gift wrapped.  Amazon comes to mind for that.

- Reduce on the unwanted presents that will end up gathering dust (38.7% of unwanted presents meet this end) or touted on eBay (27.5%). Maybe try an ethical Christmas gift.

- Don't have a traditional coal fire this Christmas, not only is dirty but in some areas of the UK, you can be fined up to £5000 if you are in a smoke free area as defined by the Clean Air Act, if you do intend to and are unsure contact your local council. Use alternative wrapping such as newspaper,recycled or in a reusable bag. Give less;meaning less packaging,waste,etc....i like gift cards for restaurants,movies,bookstores..things that produce less stuff and garbage.

i bought canvass shopping bags to wrap my gifts in; use only LED xmas lights on my display and tree, bought a living xmas tree this year instead of the aluminium i usually put up

2. do your shopping all at one big place like the mall

3. real trees are good

4. For holiday dinner go to whole foods or an organic market for your ingredient

5.unplug lights when not using them (40% more of electricity is waisted)

6.get a book called Cool Green Stuff - great eco friendly things you could buy

Opt for an artificial tree. I have had mine for almost 40 years. Think of all the time, stress and gasoline (not to mention the money) I saved not having to shop for a tree each year and haul it home.
