So the father of my daughter is now over 15K behind in child support. He has never paid but I guess that he filed for an income tax return because I got a big old $28 from his return. (Side note, how many other kids ya think he has) I see that the last of the stimulus package checks went out on July 11th. What are my chances of getting this other money?

  1. Like they say, you can't squeeze blood from a turnip.

Also as NY so honestly says, next time try finding a good man, marrying him and THEN deciding to have a child.  You might not have a GUARANTEE that he'll always be there, but at least you wouldn't be wondering basic things like how many other kids he has.  That is sad that your child won't know his own siblings.

Anyhow, sorry if you feel I'm criticizing you, but you should move on with your life for the sake of your child.

  2. Wow, you know, I'm glad that you must be the ONLY single parent in the world, who's ever gone through any hardship in their lives, who's ever had a person promise to be there to bring a life into this world only to decide that it's not worth their time OR money...  Oh, wait, I'm Sorry!!  I'd forgotten that a marriage certificate physically stops the person from leaving, and grabs their wallet to help pay for what they rightfully should be FORCED to pay for.  Oh well, I guess those of us who are worthless heathens who don't believe in marriage are forbidden to EVER have a family...  Not that I'm assuming your religious affiliation, I mean no offense to you inparticular, but anyone who must bring the judaic god into the argument to pass judgement on others just doesn't seem like a CHRISTIAN to me...

Anywho, sorry 'bout the mini rant...

My ol' man and I are on the other side of the picture.  His ex went after him for child support when their son was 3 1/2 years old, and since they weren't married, and even though he was still supporting him, they backdated the support from his date of birth, so he started over $9000 in the hole off the bat.  Whereas, personally, I think that was complete and total bullsh*t, I DO agree that it is his responsibility to pay (as does he, though he won't help his ex out personally with anything anymore, they were apart for 2 years before she went for child support).  We did just find out though, for a fact, that even after he lost his tax return to child support, his stimulus payment went to her too.

All in all, if he ever files his taxes, being a normal, healthy, able-to-work man, you WILL get his tax returns and rebates.  That's just how it works.

And by the way, I understand what you mean.  You may not need his money (or if you're like me, you don't even want it), but you SHOULD by all means make him pay for what he's done to your child by not being there for him.  No offense, but us mommies always figure out a way to support our babies at any cost, and we can fend for ourselves, but nothing can fill that hole in a child's heart...

    LET THE THUMBS DOWNS FLY!!!

  3. If you only got $28 then he must have a bunch of kids!!! If you have never got like welfare or anything like that for your baby then all that $ is owed to you, weather you get it or not is sumthin you will have to find out from your case worker. However the older children get the money first which explains why your baby got 28 bucks. how is he gettin away with not payin though he obviously works cuz he filed his taxes?? Doesnt your state automatically take it right out f his paycheck? To enforce the child support order though you should put him in contempt. He has been ordered to pay a set amount each month for your baby right? N ur dam right these dead beat dads need to start paying there child support, i mean compared to how much you spend on your child his child support payment is chump change. The court also can award you his personal property in payment for his child support.

  4. Man, Idk why everyone is hating on you just because you are trying to collect child support.  You have a legitimate reason for collecting, it is the LAW anyway!

I always had trouble getting my ex husband to pay his court ordered child support.  One year he had the nerve to claim our son on his taxes!  And I have full custody of our son!  My taxes got denied b/c of this and he ended up having to pay it all back.  It's such a shame that men can be like this and leave us women to deal with everything.  I would not count on getting anymore of that money.  It sucks but you may just have to suck it up and realize that you may never see any of that money.

  5. Wow, there are some really self righteous people answering right now. Don't you worry, most people like that are some of the world's biggest hypocrites and most likely love to pass judgement upon others because they are very unhappy with themselves. Congratulations on your achievements! Now to answer your question, I am surprised that you can receive any $ from a tax return yet no monthly support, do you have a case through an agency? I don't think individuals who owe back pay were eligible for the stimulus.

EDIT: you should really contact the agency and find out exactly what is going on in your case, I know it's like pulling a tooth and a little time consuming but it can be worthwhile, stay on top of it and keep requesting reviews.

  6. NNY, I guess you must be invincible and special.  How extraordinary....it must be nice to have a guarantee that your husband will never leave you, or die.  Who gave you this guarantee, as I'd like to obtain one for myself?

The reality is that accidents happen, and sometimes that little paper marriage certificate isn't going to save you from single parenthood.

To answer your question, I just don't know.  Sorry.  I can't imagine him getting a tax return while owing you child support.....it should go right to his children.

*edit*  Go ahead with the thumbs down....it makes me no less right.  :)
