Question:

Economic Stimulus Question...?

First I should say I am a college student that worked part time and earned enough money to ensure a stimulus package. However, when I checked online if I were to receive a payment it said I was claimed as a dependent by my parents.... Although, they have already received their credits of $1200... Not the $1500 they were supposed to get if I were claimed as a "dependent". When I put my information into the calculator it says I should get $300 supposing I was not claimed as a dependent. So did I fall through the cracks somehow? Should I give my local IRS a call? What should I do?

  1. Ms. Angel is correct.  If you're over 17 and they claimed you, neither you nor your parents will get the $300.

  2. you don't get anything because your were claimed on your parents return and they didn't get anything for you because you are over 17 years old.  Had your parents not claimed you you might have been able to qualify for the stimulus payment.

  3. There's nothing to do.  If you were claimed as a dependent, you aren't eligible to get a stimulus payment.  And if you were over 16 as of the end of 2007, which I assume you were if you're in college, your parents don't get extra for you - parents only get money for kids eligible for the child tax credit on their return, which is only for kids under 17

  4. if you paid taxes, you should've gotten a check.
