Economic problems haunt Spanish clubs as second round of matches approach – La Liga Special (Part 1)
La Liga has been marred with controversy in the current edition of Spanish top flight football. The beautiful game has come under question with its prestige on the line in the Iberian Peninsula as sporting clubs dive into deeper financial woes following
the double dip recession the world on the whole is facing.
After the resolution of the players’ strike, clubs are looking to sort out their finances and they have a big task on their hands. With the second round of matches getting underway, nine clubs are still without kit sponsorships.
The divide between La Liga teams in set to increase in the current Spanish football season with financial problems increasing in magnitude. Clubs are facing problems adapting to affects of recession and a handful of them will be needing government assistance
if the economic conditions do not change. Very less is left for clubs after Real Madrid and Barcelona take away a major portion of the television revenues and the remaining league participants are left to fight for the rest.
With 40 percent of the revenues going to the big two, the rest is shared by 18 clubs. La Liga has been damned by club officials not only from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 but across Europe, with Didier Deschamps the latest critic of the worsening conditions. A compromise could
be found over the television revenues but Liga BBVA contestants have been hit with another lightning bolt.
As many as nine clubs in the league are without jersey sponsorships at this stage. And if you put aside Real Madrid and Barcelona, none of the top six clubs have a name to put on their shirts. The kit sponsorships deals are led by the Spanish giants as well,
who earn in the region of 30 million Euros a year respectively.
La Liga’s Champions League entrants, Valencia and Villarreal, are still on the lookout for sponsors. Joining them in the hunt are Europa League qualifying teams Atletico Madrid and Sevilla. Athletic Bilbao, with a sponsor, thus, are an anomaly among the
sides taking part in European competitions. They pocket a paltry 2 million Euros a year. The sum is small but handsome compared to the fortunes (or misfortunes) of their fellows.
The clubs are being held to ransom by the sponsors being offered well below their estimates. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 and the rest of the top four are unwilling to budge from their demands and will be sticking to their stance. They are looking to pocket over 3 million Euros
per year and their demands remain unmet, needless to say.
Adding insult to injury are the offers these clubs are receiving. At a time when gaming companies have their names splattered over the jerseys of La Liga clubs, forthcoming offers from dating agencies is a new low. These agencies wishing to broaden their
horizons on the European front are pitching proposals that are well below the demands, while the add-ons are demeaning for the sporting clubs.
Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have received offers from Ashley Madison to sponsor their shirts. There are additional clauses: clubs will be pocketing an additional 50 thousand Euros if a player is caught being unfaithful to his spouse. The sum will increase
to 150 thousand Euros if a player accepts relationship digressions. Predictably, the offer has been rejected after the first round of discussions.
