Which of the two is a better DSLR camera between the two -- Canon 450D or the Sony A200, with regard to performance and economy? Are there any other pros and cons between the two?

  1. The sony dslr a200 with the kit lens currently retails at $499, the canon 450D/ XSI is at around $850. The 450D is a better choice but at $350 more.......the money saved could be used for buying some good lenses for the sony....or a good point and shoot digital camera for back up....

To answer your question, performance = canon 450D, economy= Sony A200.

The Nikon D40 is a good choice at $475, with a wide variety of lenses that are cheaper, but the sony has IS, anti-dust, and a few more megapixels....

Consider the Olympus e510 too, its cheap at $525 with the kit lens and has live view too, as an added advantage over the sony.

  2. Actually some how you missed the most economical and highest performer available at this time.  For under $470 you can buy a Nikon D40 with AF-S 18-55 mm ED lens.
