Economics: why does China have high GDP but low GDP per capita???

  1. It's all about population.  They have over four times the population as the US; if the same amount of output were concentrated in only 300 million people then Chinese living standards would be very high indeed.


  2. Isn't the answer obvious?   China has 1.3/billion people. It kind of makes a high GDP per capita a tad difficult compared to the United States with only 300/million people.

  3. Because they have a whole HEAP of CAPITA!
